Watching her use whatever it takes to bring down Obama for the past month, I have been wondering where Hillary's loyalties lies. Even though her path to the nomination is close to nonexistent, she is willing to sacrifice Obama in hopes that somehow she could win. But what is she is hoping to win?
A protacted fight that ends with Obama losing the nomination would likely leave the Democratic Party in shambles, the country highly polarized (against the Clintons), and McCain with a much better chance of winning. I know Josh sees it differently, but consider that the youth vote that has played such an important role in this primary season and seeds the future of the Democratic Party. Their first attempts at political participation will be corrupted by this fight and they are likely to sit out this election. For many, the defeat of Obama's "new politics" will end their participation in the electoral politics and the dim the future of the Democratic Party.
As you know Hillary sat down with Scaife (the right wing operative who pushed the hillary killed Foster meme) yesterday, and gave an interview where she was asked about Reverend Wright. Learning how to dodge questions is politics 101. In my opinion, the fact that Hillary willingly engaged the right-wing machine to attack Obama really puts into question the Clintons' loyalty to the Democratic Party. Is this a signal that Hillary will be working with the right-wing machine to bring Obama down?
If Hillary wins the nomination she gets to face McCain in what will be a very contention election. Bill's story about two patriots dicussing the issues is bull. If Obama wins the nomination, in spite of Hillary's covorting with Scaife, then what will she do? Will she support Obama in the general election? If Obama loses the general election, she will be a shoe-in for 2012.
