A new gallup poll came out this morning that suggest that if Barack Obama gets the nomination for president, almost 30% of Hillary Clinton supporters will back John Mc.Cain for president, rather than Obama.
The poll found that 28% will back Mc.Cain, while 19% of Obama supporters will back Mc.Cain if Hillary is the nominee. Meanwhile, only 59% of Clinton supporters will vote for Obama this November, while 72% of Obama supporters will back Clinton this fall.
Now I know a good portion of Clinton supporters will not follow through on the threat to back Mc.Cain, but lets say half of them do. You add the 15% of Clinton supporters that will vote Mc.Cain, to the people voting for Ralph Nader, which might be another 1-3%, then add the people who are just sick and tired of politics as usual, who aren't going to vote, and that adds up to a pretty healthy chunk of people who will not vote for Obama.
I am a Hillary Clinton supporter that will find it very difficult to vote Obama this fall. If Hillary is the VP, then I probably will, but other than that, I probably will sit out this election. I have supported Hillary since she was first lady, and I will not abandon her like some others have. Call me what you will, but that's how I feel, and a lot of people feel the same way. This fall, don't underestimate the mood of Hillary supporters who feel snubbed. it could come back to bite you in the ass.
