And what a great thing that is.
A few minutes ago I saw a CNBC promo for an interview by Maria Bartiromo with Obama after giving his big economic speech, and she previewed it by showing a few clips of the interview.
Of course it wasn't just a preview, Maria Bartiromo pretty much spinned what was said in the interview to accommodate a right wing point of view about the economy and taxation.
In any event, Obama apparently said that he will raise capital gains taxes (aka. how the rich really make their money) to no more than 28% but probably within the 25% range. You could hear the angst in Bartiromo's voice as she was telling the audience how Barack Obama "will RAISE TAXES!". She also said issues affecting small businesses were discussed and Obama claims to want to strengthen labor unions, index the minimum wage for inflation "making it rise every year!!!" Bartiromo uttered, implying throughout that segment that this would destroy small businesses. The march to make American labor standards into sweatshop conditions for workers is apparently a great thing and Democrats must be stopped from preserving civilized working conditions! The horror.
I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised by what he said, I have had my issues with Obama on his lack of a progressive economic agenda earlier in the campaign, and I am happy he is touching on issues that have been deemed third rails by the neoliberal-to-the-death financial press.
Well if you wanna catch the full interview, it's supposed to air after the bell closes at 4 pm. I'll sure be watching for the sheer pleasure of seeing Maria Bartiromo's face squirm in agony.
