They also go by the names of "complacency", "self-delusion" and "New Hampshire." Please, people, ENOUGH with the unreasonable prediction threads with Obama winning big in Ohio or even more out there, Obama sweeping all four, even Rhode Island, tomorrow. There's nothing I want more than that. But I don't like the message these threads send. I don't like the hopes and expectations they raise, and the subsequent let-down if the reality doesn't live up to the hope. I don't want to be let down again....
I am worried. I'm frightened actually. I think the kitchen-sink hit Obama and even if it's only effective for one news-cycle or one week, it's enough to alter the dynamics of the race. We need to look at reality here. FOUR polls today, including the extremely reliable SurveyUSA (yes, I know about Missouri, but with SUSA that was an exception to the rule) have shown Hillary with a substantial lead, if not a huge one.
Despite the media producing phony, manufactured non-stories about patriotism, NAFTA and land-deals, she has successfully convinced them that they're in the tank for Obama. Give me a break. If anything they're in the tank for Hillary, always ready to ditch an anchor if the Clinton-camp makes a big enough fuss about what they say, and always ready to fill up their 24 hours with non-stories based on non-facts about Obama's middle-name or his lack of a fucking flag-pin (for the record, I'm not wearing one either. But I believe patriotism isn't measured by a damn mass-produced brass trinklet made in China). The media are so in the tank for Clinton, that if Obama had lost 11 contests in a row and was still in the race he would be laughed off as the Democrat's Huckabee. However, we need to face cold, hard facts as much as they hurt and as unfair as they are. The Clinton uproar has worked, and now the media are on Obama's case a lot more, working overtime to create more non-stories and give more air-time to people who call his supporters "cultists" or who say his middle-name is an issue. And working overtime to produce more ratings, because the media doesn't care about who wins this race. They care about profit-margins and a protracted nomination battle is money in the bank for them.
So the Clinton shift is in full-swing. And I go back to my original point after some digression.... there is no rosey scenario here. Clinton will win Rhode Island, Ohio and maybe even Texas.
UNLESS...
... we stop with the fantastical prediction threads that have no basis in reality, and start serious discussions on how we can win the day and help Obama seal the deal as the David to Hillary's Goliath. Again to my fellow Obama supporters, the prediction threads do NOT help. What will help is...
.... Threads about HOW to canvass...
.... WHERE to canvass (emphasize weak Obama areas)
.... locations of POLLING STATIONS....
.... HOW to phone-bank.
.... ADVICE on how to turn a pro-Clinton friend/relative into an Obama supporter.
..... ADVICE on how to turn an undecided into an Obama supporter.
And finally, I know people hate them, but the "we're 30 points down" threads are GOOD, because they get people scared and motivated. We should be scared and motivated. I'm not exhaling until March 5th. I just want that exhale to be a gasp of joy and not a sigh of disappointment.
So please for the love of God stop with the biased prediction threads and let's talk instead about how to make these wild predictions actually come true!
