I am writing this diary as a response to this diary and to support this diary by offering some on-the-ground perspectives from Ohio.
Polls are all over the place. Some have Obama up, some have him down, some show them tied, some show Hillary slightly up, some Obama slightly up. Come on people! There is nothing in any of these polls that even remotely hints that Obama is going to lose Ohio. If anything, this is very good news, especially if we take Obama's comeback victories of the near past into account.
Flip over for my perspective from Cuyahoga county...
Obama's grassroots machine is in full swing in Cuyahoga county. I started volunteering recently and I can tell you that phone calls and door to door canvassing is off the hook in Cuyahoga county. I have received exactly 1 phone call from the Clinton campaign since Ohio became the focal point. I have gotten about 5 calls from the Obama campaign, some robo, some live. Now, it may be necessary to reconcile phone lists to ensure people are not called repeatedly, but people are making calls on behalf of Obama every single day.
Mailers and flyers are going out. I have gotten at least 3 pieces of campaign literature from the Obama campaign and each deals with a different issue. Some arrive in the mail, some get stuck to the door. They are being distributed fairly well.
Obama is hitting the airwaves hard. TV and radio spots are running very regularly. His newspaper ads are well-designed and quite effective. He is getting his message out and he is almost drowning Hillary out the airwaves.
In my judgment, Ohio will likely be close, but I am quite confident that Obama has a very good chance of winning our state, even if by a small margin. We will be in for a long night tomorrow. Cuyahoga, Ohio's largest county, recently switched to paper ballots. Demand for absentee ballots has been very high. Paper ballots will be collected from polls and trucked to the board in preparation for counting even before polls close. Nonetheless, due to the high turnout that is being expected, counting may go well into the night tomorrow. Also, until Cuyahoga reports, take any projections you see on TV with a grain of salt.
I am expecting Obama to carry Cuyahoga county and all the major urban areas in the state. If he does, and and does fairly well in the rural areas, he wins Ohio, no question about it!
So, folks, rather than declare defeat, get cracking! Donate, volunteer, do whatever you can to help Obama win Ohio and Texas and end this thing once and for all. There will be enough time to get nervous tomorrow night. But for now, we have some work to do. Let's get cracking!
Peace.
Update: Regarding the complaints about my poll. It's not really a poll, it's more of a call to action. Lighten up, folks :-)
