I just got to work, and thought I'd share my voting experience.
I drove to a rather large Methodist church (I still don't get the whole voting in a church thing) in Pickerington, OH (east of Columbus) this morning to cast my vote. After turning around, driving back home, picking up my wallet with my driver's license I left in the kitchen, and driving back to the church, I was ready.
First off, the weather is crummy. Pouring down rain, windy, and generally yucky. The crowd wasn't huge, but it was more that I expected to see. Things moved smoothly (there were a few poll workers under the age of 80!) for the most part.
Now for the really encouraging news: Understand that I live in a pretty red area. Pickerington is on the edge of the Columbus suburbs, and if you drive a mile east of my house, you're surrounded by farmland. But while waiting in line, you can hear the poll workers ask each voter, "Which party's primary would you like to vote in?" I kept count of course. I heard the question asked 12 times. NINE said "Democrat, please."
Sure, it's a REALLY small sample, but the fact that 3 out of 4 people in a very red area asked to vote Democratic... made me happy.
PS: On the way to work, I saw three groups of Obama supporters standing out in the rain with ponchos and signs.
PPS: I honked for them. They waved and cheered. I waved back.
PPPS: Guess who I voted for.
