Like many of you, I'm a little disappointed that Obama did not wrap up the nomination tonight. A win in both Ohio and Texas surely would have done it. A convincing win in Texas alone may have done it. Oh well, it's water under the bridge now.
But I have a simple proposition for all you Obama supporters: Let's give some money to the campaign TONIGHT to show Barack that we've got his back. I think we should call it the...
"You're Going to Need It!" Donation Drive.
(He's definitely going to need every last ounce of support from us now)
It starts now, 11:00 p.m. PT. It lasts for 24 hours. It's grassroots driven, just like his campaign.
More below.
I started out as an Edwards supporter, and I still love the guy. Iowa made be stand up and take notice of Obama. But I still thought Hillary might be a good choice. I waited to see what would happen. By the time Super Tuesday rolled around, I was ready to cast my vote and it was for Barack.
Over the past month since February 5th, I have grown more and more certain that Obama is the one we need leading the Democratic Party for the next eight months - and hopefully for the next eight years! I am a young person, and I have seen people in my generation motivated and engaged like never before. There are friends of mine who never paid attention to politics before, who now can't wait to watch the debates live on CNN.
I've been inspired by people like Populista, a Daily Kos poster who is "only" a teenager, yet has contributed immeasurably to the Obama campaign, and to her country's future. This is the type of effort we will need to turn this country around and to face the challenges like global warming that will confront us in the coming years. Obama inspires people to make that commitment to US - to the community.
Why does Obama have that special appeal? I'm not quite sure. But it is real. He gives people hope that their government can be responsible and responsive once again. And I believe we should not discount that simple idea of HOPE.
They say that when Pandora's Box opened, with all the vices and evils spread into the world, the people asked "how can we ever survive now?" And the answer was in the last thing to leave the box... it was hope. It is true that hope alone can make people capable of doing great things.
And on that note... let's begin the "You're Going to Need It!" Donation Drive !!!!!
Update: I will donate $1 for every donation you guys make because of this diary in the next 24 hours. So if you donate, post a comment below to let me know that you have done so. Barack on!
