I'm going to post an article here about an energy independence issue.
And I'll post a poll on it as well.
It's a technology I haven't heard much about really, tidal power, the ability to turn tides into power. Maybe others have.
Here it is:
http://www.sfgate.com/...
A study paid for by the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission found that the turbines would cost as much as $15 million each and $750,000 a year to maintain. Though the technology would make it possible create power by harnessing tides in the bay, the small amount of power the turbines would generate does not make paying the hefty price tag worthwhile, the report concluded.
Newsom responds:
"I'm committed to it and am going to fight for it," Newsom said. "I don't care about the arguments against it. I care about the arguments for it."
My personal view is this, as the political battle plays out on energy independence there will be a lot of technologies that don't meet investment expectations right off. Not even within the first 5 years. Maybe not even in 10. We will still need to be resolved in fighting those battles.
One of the things I learned about Al Gore is how he fought for energy independence and how he fought for solar energy. At first that technology didn't meet expectations. A solar panel providing consumer energy might produce 10 bucks of energy, but the existing market might have said the same amount of energy would or should cost 5 bucks.
Someone would have to eat that cost. Either the energy company or government subsidizing that company.
So I put it to the progressive forum: Read the article above and please discuss.
