I was a supporter of Wes Clark in 2004. Prior to the Iraq war Wes had the foresight to see that the war against Iraq was folly and, unlike Hillary, opposed the war. Many people here were on the Howard Dean bandwagon in 2004. I was too for awhile but migrated to Clark as someone who I thought might be more electable. While I was disappointed in Clark's failure to progress in the 2004 primary I was happy to see him support Kerry.
Fast forward to 2007-08. Seeing Clark support Hillary Clinton was at first understandable. There is an Arkansas connection as well as a connection to the first Clinton administration. While I liked Barak better, Hillary struck me as a reasonable alternative. But now, in keeping with Hillary's Rovian politics, Wes comes out as an a surrogate for Clinton with this attack on Obama: (continue after the flip)
Clark attacks Obama
he accused Obama of not being prepared enough to be commander in chief and properly oversee an end to the Iraq war.
"That means knowing where you're headed before you start down the path," Clark said.
What is "disturbing" is that we are in Iraq and that the person Wes Clark is supporting helped get us there by providing political cover for Bush to invade. That she did so for utterly craven political motives makes it worse.
If Clark thinks Obama isn't prepared to be President but Clinton is, well, that is enough for me. Goodbye Wes. I can't get my contributions back but it did feel good to unsubscribe to WesPac.
