With democrats turning out to vote in droves, maybe just maybe, Texas can elect a democrat to the U.S. Senate in November. While everyone was focused on the presidential primary race in Texas on March 4, little mention was made here about Rick Noriega winning the democratic primary for U.S. Senator in Texas. In fact, Rick received more votes (1.1 million) in the democratic primary than did incumbent John Cornyn in the republican primary.
Evidently the republicans wasted no time activating their smear campaign against Noriega. According to his campaign:
In response to Rick's victory, Roger Williams, the man leading the Republican effort in Texas this year, said, "Democrats want to retreat from the terrorists." This kind of language is outrageous, and it's offensive. Lieutenant Colonel Rick Noriega didn't retreat from the terrorists when he spent over a year in Afghanistan, and he's stood tall in defense of Texas and of America throughout his 27 years in uniform.
Let's not forget that the next democratic president will need a bigger majority in the Senate in order implement his or her agenda. And, we democrats in Texas would certainly enjoy having a senator who might actually listen to and act on our concerns.
According to Noriega's campaign:
Cornyn has voted in lock-step with Bush and Cheney on Iraq, he's voted in lock-step with them in denying our troops the body and vehicle armor they need, and he's voted in lock-step with them on cutting veterans benefits. Well, with your help, we can make sure that he walks in lock-step with Bush and Cheney right out of Washington this November

I know it is early, but I feel that a lot of the (often negative) energy focused on the presidential primaries could effectively be re-focused in a positive way on other races that will be important in November! Just think what this site could accomplish if instead of incessant posts bashing Clinton on the rec list, there were posts supporting other great democratic candidates who we can help elect in November!
