Now what would a feminist think if they heard a man refer to a woman using outdated sexist words? We have heard "Iron MY Shirt", and other comments (from hecklers) but where is the outrage today when an actual sexist comment was made by a Democrat?
I hope this Diary will serve as a discussion, about sexist comments. Not even coded, but why is this given a free pass? Where is Gloria?
Also this may not have been directed at just one woman, this could have been directed at ALL women.
Personal I believe this sexist attack was directed at one woman and all women as well.
Let me give you this word.
Svengali
Have you heard it before? I have not. It seems like an odd word, not just something to slip off the tongue. In my opinion, (again this is my opinion) it seems as if someone would have to think about using that word.
Let me give you the definitions. Oh and this word is qualified based on the sex of the person.
The word "Svengali" has entered the language meaning a person who, with evil intent, manipulates another into doing what is desired. It is frequently used for any kind of coach who seems to exercise an extreme degree of domination over a performer (especially if the person is female or believes he or she can only perform in the presence of the coach)
This term can have a few meanings but when used in reference to a woman it generally means a woman under a control, a woman not responsible for her actions because she is under control of a man.

Here are some examples of it used in popular culture (even was used to in reference to Britney Spears).
In Season 4, Episode 5 ("The Wallet") of Seinfeld, the character Elaine refers to the power her psychiatrist boyfriend has over her, but mispronounces the name as "Svenjolly," prompting Jerry to suggest, "Maybe he has, like, a cheerful mental hold on you."
Chew on that, so a woman who is under the control of a man, a woman who cannot think for herself?
In the film All About Eve, while speaking to Eve Harrington, Bill Sampson claims that he has been called a lot of names, but never Svengali.
Or an evil manipulative woman?
Karl Rove has been called the Bush Administration's Svengali, most commonly by The Daily Show's host Jon Stewart.
This one speaks for itself I think.
It also has some connection to the term stage mom.

Wow that is harsh right, stage mother? Insult to injury.

There is even something called the Svengali defense. It is awesome because it is a defense that only women can use (women being so weak willed and what not).
Are you upset yet? Want to know how this was used? Well let me give you the quote. I will leave out one word so your blood can boil (despite what candidate you support)
Rubin blamed ____ for the mess, in particular for giving a senior foreign policy adviser — he described her variously as a "guru" and a "svengali" with "unlimited access to the candidate — free rein to tour the world talking about his policies in a field where words matter.
Upset yet? Is this a word that any woman should be described as (manipulative or manipulated)? Don't think so. Do you?
Well the word I left out was Obama.
Rubin said this about Samantha Powers (after she had resigned over the monster comment).
Retired NATO commander Wes Clark and former State Department spokesman Jamie Rubin attacked Samantha Power on a Clinton conference call just now, a fairly poignant moment because Power, in the past, has been their vocal ally.
Clark is a hero of Power's first book, A Problem from Hell, and she and Rubin both backed Clark for president in 2004.
Wow so Powers is just expendable since she does not agree w/Rubin? Since Powers supported someone else, Powers must be a weak willed woman? That is sexism. Moreover, is powers implying that we are all weak willed women who need saving by men like them?
Didn't the Washington post get in trouble for an article (that they latter called satire or a joke) for saying the same thing.
Alternatively, is Rubin saying Powers is an evil manipulative woman?
This is sexism, this word is not used much and he knew what he was saying; he needs to apologize to all women now.
My sisters are you upset?

Here's more definition sources, you can search and they all say the same thing. This is vile!

Some have said they do not see this as a sexist term. Again, by definition it has a different meaning when used in reference to a woman. There is a whole category of defenses (that are female specific) that fall under this term. It is not that common. To me considering everything else this primary season, this is one of the more questionable terms used in reference to a woman. Again I think you have to look at the definition again.
Here's more a link to a case where the Svengali defense was actually used.
