Long day at school. I'm tired of the tirades. And I'm watching Will Ferrell do an admirable job as George Bush explaining the current administration's view on Global Warming (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jDrq0LNrh-A) and I get this sense that comedians must have a been thinking of their stake in this upcoming election.
I mean, really, who is going to give us the best Obama, the best HRC? I'm leaving McCain out of it because frankly it isn't an option and, God Forbid, he will be waaaaay too easy. Now, think for a moment. Leave misogyny, sexism, racism, and ageism out of this. It is comedy, remember? Will we be able to get over ourselves and laugh at cross over comedy. Now I don't mean black face or white face, but the true meaning of impersonation...inhabiting a person's particular nuance, facial expressions, mannerisms, and most easily caricatured features so closely that we won't be able to stop our selves from having a hearty laugh and relieving some tension.
Remember we'll be looking forward to 4- 8 years of this. So, basically, besides the obvious candidates to impersonate the, er, candidates can we accept white men sending up Obama OR HRC, black women sending up HRC OR Obama? So, people, what will it be? Dane Cook in drag?
Sinbad doing his baddest Obama? Chappelle, Wayne Brady, Roseanne, Sarah Silverman, Carlos Mencia for heaven's sake?
And don't forget the spouses. Now, Hillary may have an advantage in that Bill is already part of many comedian's repertoire, but some up and comers will be able to revisit that and make him their own.
So, stop and think for a minute. Take some deep breaths and look forward to 4-8 years of comedy and realize how truly momentous and historical this election is!
P.S. Leave SNL out of it for the moment.
P.P.S. This is meant as a diversion, laughter, relieve some tension. Well, maybe it just might reveal who takes themselves waaaaay too seriously.
Peace
