The Department of Justice and Department of Homeland Security have released a statement tonight that the Republican Party has unlawfully engaged in antiamerican activities, threatened and intimidated American citizens, attempted to influence the electorial process in a manner to disrupt the government and for their own personal gain. These actions said an unnamed Justice Department spokesman constitute intimidation of American citizens within the boundries of the United States and could result in charges under the RICO Act and other antiterrorist laws enacted by Congress since September 11, 2001.
OK, so it's April Fools but aptly named in this case for the fools Republicans are in their attempts to subvert the Constitution. In an article in today's Huffington Post, new allegations have surfaced about the Republican Party's attempts to suppress minority voters, and the DOJ's failure to investigate serious allegations of voter intimdation, suppression and by any means possible, attempting to influence the outcome of elections. Specically in Dallas Texas where black voters were sent an intimidating letter for a Congressional race for a seat held by Republican Texas House Representative Tony Goolsby, who faced a serious challenge for his seat from Democrat Harriet Miller. In the letter, black voters were warned that should they show up at the polls on election day, and had been registered to vote by ACORN a community activist "get out the voter organization" in partnership with Project Vote, that they would be arrested since ACORN was a fraudulent organization.
Other tactics used by Goolsby are outlined here in the HuffPost article, along with other Republican dirty tricks outlined here and here. Goolsby at this time, who barly won his re-election bid is now embroiled in a serious defamation law suit filed by Harriet Miller. Criticism's of the DOJ's Civil Rights Division being more concerned with the Republican cry of "voter fraud", yet as cited in today's article; "Yet voter fraud, in fact, is so rare that even an intensive, four-year anti-fraud initiative by the Justice Department couldn't even find one person in the country to charge with impersonating another voter -- out of nearly 215 million votes cast in federal elections." Yet this battlecry has been used by Republicans to pass laws, resolutions and ammendments requiring voter ID cards, all aimed at disenfranchising lower socio economic voters. The DOJ under now disgraced Attorny General Gonzalis sought remake it's Civil Rights division into a ideologue arm of the Republican Party.
The purpose of this article though goes back to it's title. It amazes me that any political party could be so blind as not to see the future implications of the groundwork laid by Republicans and this Administration. I no longer feel I can trust any Republican because no matter how good the person representing that party might seem, the fact they are identified as a Republican scars their credentials in my book after the subversion, shredding of the Constitution, lies and deciet I have witnessed in the past eight years. The Republicans on the other hand call Dems "defeatists, sympathizors of terrorists, traitors, socialist, facists, communists.......the list is endless of their hateful diatribe. Yet as they are losing credability, and political power, forgetting that the American people may be slow to rouse, but then fearful in their anger as one World War Two political observer noted from across the pond. They are leaving in place a precedent that I neither trust Democrats or Independents with for my future (yes, I am cynical towards all politicians). If the Democrats are so dangerous to America and the Republican way, could not their own machinery be turned against them? Yes Republicans have blocked any meaningful investigation into the illegal Bush/Cheney regime, but come 2009 the political landscape will change, and we all know what payback is right?
So in their haste to promote their almost Nazi like unity, they have forgotten that the discontent and anger they have created my turn on them. So what if a Democratic Attorney General decides to remake the Justice Department into an agency bent on persecuting the Republicans. Lord, the investigations and charges that could result for crimes that the statute of limitation has yet to cover. Question the White House? Precedent has already been set that Executive Priviledge prevents that and supenoas issued by Congress are meaningless. Next move to some idealistic Democratic contender.....the Republicans are outlaws, therefore their organization is outlawed. Next April Fools the joke maybe on Republicans.
