An offhand comment by Hillary made it's way to the ticker today:
Pressed on whether she truly believes Obama is an elitist, Clinton called him “a good man,” but recalled the narratives of the 2000 and 2004 president election.
“You don’t have to think back too far to remember that good men running for president were viewed as being elitist and out of touch with the values and lives of millions of Americans,” she said.
Please, please, please correct me if I'm wrong, but did Hillary just throw Al Gore under the bus in an effort to strengthen her candidacy? I know she didn't actually say that both Kerry and Gore are elitists, only that they were viewed as elitists, but seriously, what the f***? Is this really the direction of her end game? Is this honestly the advice she's getting form her advisors? Was this a personal choice? Is anyone safe from her campaign?
Color me confused, but aren't these exactly the ridiculous right-wing talking point that Clinton herself has been trying to overcome for 15 years?
So can I please just set the record straight: Al Gore is not an elitist. Obama is not an elitist. If anyone perceives them as being such, they are dead wrong. It helps us exactly none for one of our party's most recognizable figures to perpetuate these fallacies.
That she is even willing to appear to throw Al Gore (the winner of the 2000 election, by the way) under the bus is frightening and sad.
Please, please, please correct me if I'm wrong.
