We all know that this 'bitter' "controversy" is a media-concocted, media-fueled media-firestorm, just as we all knew the same about 'Wright-gate.' Guess what? Its only going to get worse.
Everything Obama does and says is parsed to death by the horrible, disgusting, [insert negative adjective here] political media. Even the once-proud New York Times can't restrain itself anymore and is now proudly wearing a 'PARTICIPANT' ribbon for taking part in the idiotic gotcha-game of scouring everything Obama says and looking for something that just might possibly offend even one person out there (and don't even get me started about William Kristol's ramshackle joke of a column today. All The Garbage That's Fit To Print). Piling on Obama over insignificant, petty bullshit distractions has become the media's response to the (bogus) accusations that he was getting a free ride early this year. Thus we are stuck with ten thousand articles and hours each day on the awful cable news channels speaking of the 'mortal danger' to Obama's campaign from whatever ridiculous concocted scandal is circulating about him that day. One can almost hear the hope in these segments on TV and the articles in the daily fishwrap that this will be the BIG ONE, the one that finally knocks the 'unseasoned upstart' out of the race.
All of this will continue, and don't kid yourselves: its going to get worse. Imagine what's going to happen after the first debate with McCain? "Was Obama being disrespectful to a highly patriotic veteran with whom every Joe Sixpack identifies?" "Does Obama really want our troops to have died in vain?" "How could Obama be so craven as to pounce on McCain's repeated misquotes regarding Sunni and Shi'ite in Iraq? Does he not respect elders? He shows a marked lack of decorum in calling out the affable, respected elder statesman by using his own words against him. Has Obama no shame?" Those are the dumbest things I can think of right now, but the vapidity of the media will make these imagined 'neutral' analyses seem as if they originated at a MENSA convention.
To close, once HRC bows out (God only knows when this will happen) there will be only two candidates for the media to focus on, and only one for them to hammer about everything he says; does; gestures; doesn't gesture; implies; doesn't imply; wears; doesn't wear; imbibes; how he imbibes it; everything his surrogates say and do; where his children attend school; what his wife really thinks about the plight of Australian aborigines; the controversial remarks his former classmate from high school in Hawai'i made six years ago; and on and on.
You really thought it couldn't get worse than the treatment Kerry got in 2004, didn't you? HA! What the media is about to pull over the summer and fall will make "media circa 04 look as though they truly earned their 'liberal' moniker.
