New Jerseyans in the third Congressional district and Americans across the country will ask themselves a simple question in the voting booth this year: Should the next Congressman in their district continue the policies of George W. Bush?
We all know the Republicans will. I will not.
I understand the daily struggles' middle class families face, their anxiety about the soaring cost of groceries and gas, and concern about where to turn if a loved one gets sick, because they don't have health care coverage. I know the challenges because I have lived with them.
As an only child, I grew up in a small town in Haddonfield, New Jersey. My father was a small business owner and the town's drycleaner and mother was a stay at home mom. We were the first "Adler family" to own a home in America. However, after my father suffered a series of heart attacks, we lost our family dry cleaning business, and like many families today, left with a staggering set of health care bills and no income to pay them.
That's why I will fight to expand health care coverage and make it more affordable. That's why I will fight to pass SCHIP.
When my late father passed away after suffering a fourth heart attack, my mother and I had nowhere to turn, but to Social Security for a hand up. Social Security for widows served as a safety net and helped my mother and I to stay on our feet.
That's why I will fight to make that sure Social Security is solvent for future generations, and never let Republicans and President Bush privatize Social Security.
I was fortunate. Through hard work, guaranteed college loans, scholarships, and part-time jobs, I received a college education and then a law degree at Harvard University. But today, while we spend trillions of dollars to police a civil war in Iraq that should have never been authorized, families are losing their homes, people are losing their jobs, and our economy is tumbling downwards.
We need leaders who will responsibly and honorably end the war in Iraq so that we can focus on winning the war on terror in Afghanistan.
I am running for Congress to replace Congressman Jim Saxton (R-Mount Holly) in a district that has been under Republican control since 1882 because I believe we need to take our country in a new direction. I will fight for change in Washington and buck the political establishment whenever necessary, to do what is right for middle class families as I have done in the state legislature. We have a great opportunity to win (Rothenberg has the race as "toss-up/tilt Democratic) because of our fresh ideas to change Washington and outpouring support from ordinary Americans like you.
When voters ask themselves:
Should the next Congressman in their district continue the policies of George W. Bush?
They know that I will not, but my Republican opponents will.
We'll stand up for change...the type of change Barack Obama says "we can believe in".
If you believe in taking our country in a new direction and changing Washington, then I'd be honored to have you join our campaign. Please visit my campaign website at www.AdlerforCongress.com and invite others to join the campaign. Thank you and I look forward to discussing how we can move our campaign for change forward in the comments.
