The diary at the top of the rec list suggests that Stephanopolous is some kind of shill for the Clintons. That is so not true. For those who haven't read his book All Too Human, here's the must-read, money part of Diane Sawyer's interview of Stephanopoulous (link to the YouTube, transcript that follows is from Part Two):
GS: I do owe the president a lot, and I'm grateful for the chance he gave me. And I defended him through an awful lot. When this story broke, I did not say, "The president's lying." I did not say, "He should be impeached."
DS: What about silence out of respect for what you were to him, and what he was to you?
GS: So i'm just supposed to say, I have no opinion on this? No, I just don't accept that, absolutely not. I wasn't prepared to say, "This is all about his enemies." Or, this is acceptable behavior, or it's okay to lie to the country.
DS: But he says his anger only subsided after August 17th, when the president admitted an inappropriate relationship in a statement to the grand jury.
GS: And just when he finished reading it, he took off his glasses and he just had this quiet moment, and his face just fell; and in that moment, I did feel sorry for him. You know, here was a guy who had just worked his whole life to be president. That was heartbreaking. That was all the punishment any man should have to take; any man.
DS: As he watched the president on tape, Stephanopolous says, he cried.
DS: Do you think you were harder on him because your heart was broken?
GS: Sure. But I think the real public wrong was when he, in a way, made the whole country complicit in his dishonesty. And especially when he sent people out to tell his story for him.
DS: Should a man capable of doing that ever have been elected president?
GS: Yeah... people chose him.
DS: That's a cop-out ... should they have?
GS: [pauses] No. I don't think so. I mean it's ... you know, the problem is... he hasn't been a bad president; he has achieved more than I ever could have imagined. But he is the head of state, where--the person matters.
