So even though I'm officially boycotting MyDD, I glance over there occasionally to gauge trends (and, in fact, there have been a few semi-sane posts lately).
I was delighted to find that a superb bit of satire had made the recommended list and was receiving quite a bit of attention.
But... just as I was admiring the nuanced verisimilitude of this fantastic piece, I heard none other than Rush Limbaugh on the radio in the next room saying the exact same things as the satirist -- and Rush didn't seem to be joking!
That's when it hit me. The author of the piece I was reading was entirely serious as well!
Check it out for yourself. Using sophisticated deconstructionist techniques, the author (and many of her fans) were completely convinced that Barack was shooting Hillary the bird when he scratched his cheek with his middle finger.
And here was Rush, the king of talk radio making the exact same argument about Barack's blatant "bird finger" tactics.
As I picked my jaw up from the floor, I found myself, all of the sudden, enveloped in a wonderful peacefulness of the sort that I hadn't felt in months. My gut was telling me that with the emergence of this fingergate scandal... the race is now over. Barack has won.
The opposition has been reduced to Obama's fingers. It's all they have left. Their last gasp. Their Richard III ("My kingdom for a horse!") strategy.
Note exhibit B: the (normally) cool and collected Joe Scarborough, whose panties were wadded up all day yesterday -- until, finally, in utter desperation, he was forced to blurt out that he just couldn't any longer stand Barack's elitism (i.e., his now certain success), as evidenced by, yes, Barack's fingers, brushing off the lint of all these final flailing attacks from his shoulders, emerging, bruised yet smiling, from the battlefield.
