Did anyone expect that crashing the gate would be a cakewalk? We're not watching Hillary Clinton kicking and scratching as much as we're really watching the old guard struggling to remain relevant. And that can apply literally to the older generation of politicians but more importantly applies broader to a way of thought and to a national maturation.
Take a look around. You are in the middle of history. This election will be remembered as one of the most historical in our country's history. Not just because we have a woman and black man running, though that is indeed incredibly significant, but because we are witness to the last vestiges of the old-world not going softly into the night.
A new generation is rising up to claim what is rightfully ours. Not just an age-based generation but more an intellectual and compassionate generation of thought that has struggled for much longer than many of you were born to take charge.
Hillary Clinton is playing the game that she was taught, the game that has slammed her, the game that won her husband the presidency. But that's the old game. This is the "new" game and we're finally getting to play it on the pro level.
I've been around for awhile and have seen the tide rise and rescind time and again but over that time the high water mark keeps rising. I have prayed that the tide would wash over in my lifetime. I never thought it would happen this early. There are so many who came before Obama but probably most significant is Howard Dean. Howard Dean brought the water level right to the very tippy top before rescinding. And the internet was a primary tool.
So pile on Hillary as much as you want or can. I in fact encourage it, up to the point that she sees the light, as it is necessary in order for us to take the big step forward. But don't pile on her personally or mercilessly. It's hard to have compassion for the person who is standing in the way of the future that we have envisioned and worked for for so many years. But it's not her, it's what she represents that we are railing against. And this is all she knows.
