The idea for this diary was inspired by Ozzie's diary "Illinois Single Payer Drama Week". The Illinois legislature has started work on HB 311.
I'd love to see some action on the federal level with something like representative Conyer's bill HR-676 enacted. Unfortunately, the odds seem slim for that happening at this time. So, What else can we do? Being a proponent of Single-Payer and living in California I support state senator Kuehl's effort to get SB-840 passed, but why stop just a couple of states?

Why not a 50 State Strategy for Single-Payer? Why not zerg the powers that be and win (They'll have to run out of money some time).?
Lets face it Barack or Hillary alone aren't going to get us Single-Payer even if they supported it... and McCain forget about it. This can't happen from the top down this has to happen from the bottom up. All we need is ONE state to get this wild fire started.
I did some googling around and came up with the following links:
Pennsylvania
Michigan HB-4202
Connecticut SB-1371
Pennsylvania HB 1660
Minnesota
Can anyone find states I missed? Or better links?
The bottom line on all this is that we have to push this both at the state level and the federal level to get this done. I think it will be well worth the effort. Perhaps we can create a template bill that is modeled on one of the current bills to send to our legislative representives in states that currently don't have a single-payer bill in the works. What say ye?
