Now comes news that Berkeley law students had a very disappointing 82% bar passage rate last summer. Boalt Hall, the Berkeley law school where John Yoo is a tenured professor, recently addressed student concerns that Boalt grads had a too-low pass rate on the California Bar Exam. http://boaltalk.blogspot.com/... Apparently, the students feel that a law school of Boalt's standing http://grad-schools.usnews.rankingsa... should have a higher pass rate.
Yoo returned to teaching at Boalt in 2004 and currently teaches Constitutional law. http://www.law.berkeley.edu/... OK, Con Law is not a major part of the California bar exam, but still: is it possible that his tortured reasoning in the Torture Memos has begun to confuse his students sufficiently to rob them of the ability to pass the bar? Many Yoo defenders argue that academic freedom should protect his tenure from attack. Yet, most would probably agree that law school is trade school; who cares about academic freedom if the students can't be lawyers when they get out?
