Oh yeah. I went there. While Barack and Hillary are finishing up PA today and Guam, Indiana and NC are in the next two weeks, it's time to start focusing on the Republican nominee.
Senator John Sydney McCain.
What makes him any worse than a normal Republican? Plenty, but today I'll focus on this.
John McCain gets more from the US Government for war injuries than most people do for working all year long.
John McCain gets more from social security than many people do for working all year long.
And then there's the US Senate salary and book royalties (over 300,000) and, let's not forget, his wife's fortune.
And still, he took money from Lincoln Savings and Charles Keating?
Sure, the Republicans are going to play every trick in the book to see that the typical American votes against his/her checkbook. They'll say Obama's not a patriot, out of touch, etc. Who's more in touch - someone who just finished paying off his student loans or someone who's been scamming the government for 50,000+ in non-taxable income?
For decades, Republicans decried welfare moms and former President Clinton, in his prescient wisdom, ripped welfare apart for a few political points. Generally I get annoyed with this argument as many companies (especially the larger ones) receive generous government assistance - it's just called defense contacting instead of temporary aid for needy families. But here we have a man who says he's in perfect health who makes hundreds of thousands of dollars in real income cheating the government.
Finally, this really works me up because I have muscular dystrophy. Needing help during college, as I couldn't work AND go to school, I was told by a disability court that (1) I was faking, (2) muscular dystrophy couldn't hurt as much as I said it did without me looking "weird, (3) young men are generally healthy, and so on. I was told I was healthy enough to work SOME job (as I had planned on doing, after getting an education, so I didn't have to rely on a factory job that would exacerbate my MD) - so I needed to get out there.
Well, John McCain - you're healthy enough to work, you make plenty of money and frankly, there are other soldiers who could use that money more than you.
Stop being such an elitist.
