In light of the repeated question as to why Obama could not close the deal in Pennsylvania, I pose a question to the Clinton Camp and to the Mainstream Mercenaries, specifically to Joe Scarborough and Pat Buchanan: Can Hillary close the deal in North Carolina? This is the question the Obama Camp needs to counter with amongst all the post Pennsylvania Primary spin.
In my humble opinion, no. And not for the same reasons. The elephant in the room in PA was Obama’s color. Just as Gov. Rendell came out and said, there are just some white people who will not vote for Obama simply because he is black as the exited polling showed. I live in the disappointing state of Ohio which is very similar to PA and have worked up close and personal with the types of people who base their sole characterization of a person based on their race. We can only try to change these types of people one person at a time. Unfortunately, Obama could not overcome that dynamic in a 6 week span of time.
Hillary faces a bigger problem of her own making. She has officially alienated the African American vote and told us (yes, I’m black), that our votes don’t matter. Everyone knows about the S.C. debacle so I will not rehash the dynamics they speak for themselves. She has also attacked states for being unimportant and that whites that support him are latte drinking, Prius driving, Birkenstock wearing cult elitist. Will she be able to win them over in N.C. in 2 weeks. Will the talking heads pick her apart for not be able to cut into his base? I have listened to enough of their spin to know that the likelihood of this happening outside of Olbermann, is slim to none and slim is looking good. But it still begs to ask the question anyway. Can Hillary close the deal in N.C?
