I'll admit it, late on Tuesday I was vexed, pissed, lost some sleep, and wanted to blow up CNN for their constant chatter about how a single digit victory translated into a new day. I was shocked CNN was "shocked" given Hillary had always led in the polls, by as much as 20% in January, and Obama had predicted his loss. I would opine CNN's shock was manufactured to keep the show going. "Inevitability" doesn't sell papers. If it hadn't been for Obama's wonderfully moving Tuesday night speach, I would have kicked my dog.
Yet, today it became clear - that Obama guy is down right pretty smart. He isn't the rabid pit bull that Hillary is but, he is smarter and won big time in Pennsylvania by opening up that big ol' can of whoop ass! Proving once again that while Hillary is a tough nut, Obama is every bit as tough and twice as smart. And Obama, like Atticus Finch, knows what to do with rabid dogs - kill them with well aimed financial bullets. And as we now see, Obama hits a bull's eye while Hillary thinks she "won" in PA.
Memo to Clinton campaign: While everybody understands that money is tight, charging supporters and faithful volunteers $5 for a plastic cup of soda at a victory party seemed like an overreaction. There must be a middle ground, perhaps involving the occasional bowl of complementary potato chips.
If Obama had paid dumb money for the likes of Penn, he would have been told to write off PA and looked for more fertile ground. But Mr. Smarty Pants Obama, who would run this country as well as he has mastered his campaign, decided to provide Team Hillary with yet another fatal blow.
Each one of the remaining contests are like deep holes which Clinton must climb out of. The ladder she is going to be using is made of CASH! By taking a hard run at PA Obama acted like an Uber-Hoover and sucked out the last of Hillary's bucks as she was forced to spend, spend, and spend again merely to keep some semblance of her once insurmountable lead. If Hillary has a strong showing in the remaining 9 contests it could hurt Obama. So how best to you cut her off at the knees? Take away the Mother's Milk of Politics - her cash. Now we are cooking with gas!
Did it work? Well as Team HRC reports, the days to come will be rather lean. Or as Clinton's pollster and strategist, Geoff Garin, pointed out "this is....our new era of frugality..." Well if you want to know how bad the "new era" is going to look let us take a look at Hillary's golden oldie financial days: Clinton started April $10 million IN DEBT! It is any one's guess, until this months numbers are released, how much deeper that hole got. But it suffices to say HRC's money situation is desperate. No wonder she has failed to pay her worker's health insurance, didn't pay her own alma mater's bill, and left some poor small time caterer flapping in the wind. Best part, Obama, having run a tighter/more savvy campaign, has enough money in his coffers to do this again and again while not feeling the Pennian squeeze.
Now HRC has touted her new campaign of $10 million in 24 hours. Yet, this claim is both dubious and won't repair PA's damage to her funds. And she can't look for too much help on the horizon. While most of Obama's money has come from small donors, far away from getting near their $2,300 limit, Hillary's money comes in much greater part from richer donors who have hit the limit and can no longer contribute. In other words, she has tapped her well dry and Obama's bucket keeps coming up full. As we now see, Obama, who didn't have to come up with some gimmick for a new surge in cash, has been taking cash in, hand over fist, in the recent hours/days.
So while Obama lost what he always knew he was going to lose - PA, he once again showed why he will make a much better president. If she can't run her campaign, and keep her money woes in check, do we want her running our country and handling our tax dollars.....NOT! I dread the idea of her spending the last of our tax contributions, like she did during her campaign, on party platters, groceries, and nights at the Four Seasons
So yes, I was acting like grandma with wet diapers on Tuesday night. Yet, I realized the man is too smart, too much of a hard worker, and too much of a damn good chess player to allow me to go to bed angry. And remember, NEVER GO TO BED ANGRY. I actually feel bad for my fellow democrats who support Hillary...if PA is good news there are too many democrats going to bed angry for the days/weeks/months to come.
And we all know what happens when the "monster" runs out of money....
