So as we know, Hillary continued the primary madness indefinetly with her big "double digit" win in Pennsylvania. (at least it's double digits when you count the decimal points). As a result we continue to beat up on each other rather than focusing on the real enemy, John McCain. Each day that we continue down this path of self destruction, the odds of John McCain being our next President increase. So what's my solution? Let's run them both with Clinton being our nominee in the states that she has won, and Obama being our nominee in the states that he has won. In short, let's follow the Whig strategy of 1836.
In 1836 the Whig party ran 3 different candidates, with Hugh White appearing on the ballot in the southern states, William Harrison appearing on the ballot in most of the northern states, and Daniel Webster appearing on the ballot in Massachusetts. Of course this strategy didn't work out so well for the Whigs in 1836. They lost the election, and not too long after that their party fell completely apart. However, who's to say that it wouldn't work out for us in this election. After all, following the Whig strategy would allow all of the beer drinking, gun totin Democrats in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Texas, New York, Arkansas, Tennessee, and all of Hillary's other states to vote for the candidate of their choice, while also allowing all of those latte sipping, wine drinking, Volvo driving Democrats in Iowa, Maine, Idaho, Virginia, Mississippi, South Carolina, Missouri, and all of Obama's other states to vote for their candidate. Then we'll let the House of Representatives sort things out after we have denied John McCain a majority of the electoral votes. Since the House is dominated by Democrats, we would ensure that a Democrat was elected President while at the same time pleasing both the beer drinking, gun totin, blue collar crowd and the sipping, wine drinking, Volvo driving crowd.
This strategy also gives the remaining undecided superdelegates an easy way out. They can placate all of their constituents without having to make such a difficult decisions. So what do we have to lose, let's please everyone and follow the 1836 Whig electoral strategy! After all, the surest path to victory is for our party leaders to simply allow our party to continue to remain fractured in the runup to the general election. It worked for the Whigs didn't it? Oh well, maybe it will work for us anyway.
