Hey everybody, hope you're all having a rockin' Friday.
I'm writing this diary today because I need your help.
By now I'm sure that you've heard the Clinton campaign's absurd claim that she can win more swing states than Obama. Earlier this week Kos debunked that theory here.
Well, Hillary's latest straw grasping has left me with an idea: a fundraising project to show Obama's support in swing states.
Follow me below.
Coattales are an extremely important aspect of Presidential-year elections. A strong candidate at the top could have huge implications for our candidates down the ballot.
With that in mind, I'd like to modestly suggest a new fundraiser that will target down-the-ballot candidates in swing states during 2008. Unlike the Obamajority fundraising drive proposed by Adam B and Populista last month, which aims at electing progressives from all over the country, my fundraiser will have this aim:
To raise money for progressive Democratic candidates at the level of House, Senate and Gubernatorial in the dozen or so swing states of 2008.
Quickly, here are the Swing States that I have identified in 2008:
- Nevada
- New Mexico
- Missouri
- Iowa
- Ohio
- Virginia
- North Carolina
- New Hampshire
- Colorado
- Wisconsin
- Florida
- Pennsylvania
Here is where I need your help
It would be unfair and ignorant for me to choose these candidates all by myself. I need your help in selecting the best candidate(s) for every state.
Here are my preliminary choices for each state's representation:
- Nevada: Eventual Opponent of Rep. Jon Porter (R) NV-03.
- New Mexico: Tom Udall, US Senate
- Missouri: Jay Nixon, Governor
- Iowa: Eventual Opponent of Rep. Steve King (R) Iowa-05
- Ohio: Dr. Victoria Wulsin (OH-2)
- Virginia: Eventual Nominee in VA-11, Tom Davis' former seat.
- North Carolina: Larry Kissell NC-08
- New Hampshire: Jeanne Shaheen, US Senate
- Colorado: Mark Udall, US Senate
- Wisconsin: I'm all ears here.
- Florida: Joe Garcia, FL-25
- Pennsylvania: Bob Roggio, PA-06
This fundraiser is aimed at showing the strength that Barack Obama supporters can provide for our candidates down the ticket.
I look forward to hearing what you all think of this idea, and your suggested candidates.
