Ok. Here is my take on what has been happening around here.
First of all, we are all dead tired of this primary campaign. It has gone on too bloody long, and Democrats' feelings toward each other have started to sour. As Matt Stoller has said, each primary since February has resulted in the most annoying and inconclusive possible outcome, and there is no reason to believe that this trend will not continue through to June. Not to mention the fact that the superdelegates very well might not take decisive action after the voting ends, so it is possible that this thing could go all the way to the convention.
Second of all, and more pertinently, people just went through a roller-coaster with Jeremiah Wright's recent appearances and Obama's interview on Fox News. Watching the zeitgeist on this site over the past few days has been pretty entertaining, but also troubling....
(Keep reading for the motivational shpiel below)
Every time we learned that Jeremiah Wright would be on TV, the comment sections would go ballistic, with folks asking why he wasn't taking a vacation until November. And then he would appear, and everyone would be falling all over themselves to say what an earth-shattering performance he had given. And then he would come on again, and the ritual would repeat itself anew. Same thing with Obama's appearance on Fox News. Y'all are being schizophrenic. No wonder people are tired out, disoriented and demoralized today... It's hard to get high, crash, get high again, crash again, etc. for an entire weekend and not be tired on Monday.
Look.
Get it together people. Chill out, keep your eyes on the prize, and get to work. But first, listen to John, may he rest in peace.
If that didn't get you fired up, listen again to what Barack said on Super Tuesday about the importance of pushing on when the going gets tough.
And finally, an oldie but goodie:
Let's do this thing, ok? I didn't give up a month of my life to work in PA for nothing. I'm not about to let victory slip away from us at the last minute. And I'm sure you feel the same way. The stakes are too high for us to second-guess and pout ourselves to defeat. Stand up straight, and get out there and volunteer for Barack this week. Let's push him over the top in Indiana and North Carolina, and put the wind in his sails as he glides toward the nomination and, ultimately, the presidency. Yes. We Can.
