I don't distrust Barack Obama. On the whole I find him likable and think he's done a decent job in the Senate.
But it's long seemed to me he could do better.
He steps so carefully about trying not to offend anyone -- yet I was offended when he gave a stage to a gospel singer who used his microphone to sing out an attack on gay people, and I'm not so sparkly about his sniffing at DailyKos commenters who protested his defense of the Bork Roberts nomination to the Supreme Court. Yes, as he said, he voted against Roberts when it came time to vote, but Roberts wasn't worth a filibuster, was he? No. All Roberts' decisions since he's been on the Court have been nothing worth fighting to prevent. A little No, just to register one's disapproval, but that's it. Or did I miss Obama's floor speech? Reading the remarks Obama has posted on his Senate page doesn't much reassure. He's happy to tar the "groups on the ... left [who] resort to the sort of broad-brush dogmatic attacks that have hampered the process in the past and constrained each and every Senator in this Chamber from making sure that they are voting on the basis of their conscience." That's the ultimate goal? To have each Senator vote on the basis of their conscience? Sadly, many barely register on the conscience meter.
This diary is not meant to dump on Obama. Wouldn't you rather have a Prez Obama over a Prez McSame, LuvSet? Sure, but this business of putting aside your critical thinking and thrusting all your trust at one man -- He knows what he's doing! He's smarter than me! How could I judge him when I know he has secret information that really makes the case! -- is a bad business to be in.
UPDATE: Sundog changed my tags to Troll. I added my other tags back in but left Troll because I totally trust Sun dog's judgment in every particular!
UPDATE 2: Frankly, I thought the poll choice "whatever!" was the choice for those who thought the poll choices were lousy. Either that or just ignoring the poll. Like I do most times.
