There's a severe disconnect between attending an Obama rally or hearing him in an interview on TV or YouTube, versus what what you read in papers, what you see/hear from the talking heads/pundits, what you read in the media blogs. Ordinary folks who don't have a press badge see an inspiring candidate with a fresh take on how to solve the problems of the country. They see a friendly guy, smart, witty, yet down to earth. They see a guy who's at home in his own skin and seems sincerely motivated to help people and make a difference in people's lives. Now contrast this view to the media's take:
The MSM (main stream media) looks at Obama as a shrewd politician with a talent for public speaking. They thought they saw something different but now they've let themselves get jaded by the swiftboating campaign of the Repugs and Hillary. It seems that they feel that their job is not to report the reality (what people who attend Obama's rallies, hear his interviews, etc. actually experience) but to interpret reality from their tired eyes. They look for angles instead of inspiration. They look for agendas instead of sincere motivation. They look for what can go wrong instead of what's there.
Basically, they're jaded, they're cynical, and they think the whole world's the same way, so they report things as if their warped view is as things actually are when in fact their view is not really grounded in reality.
But ordinary folks who've actually listened without cuts/soundbytes to Obama see what they see, hear what they hear, and they shake their heads and say, where does the MSM get all this stuff?
Usually the result of MSM's self-destructive behavior is to turn off the populace from voting. But it doesn't seem to be happening this time. This moment in our history, reality has actually caught up with these purveyors of fantasy. Just as the Bushies couldn't hide the realities of what is happening in Iraq, the MSM can't totally filter out the joy, excitement and hope generated by this young man from Illinois.
So let the MSM gorge themselves in more Wright, flag pins, polls, superdelegates, and what have you. Meanwhile folks in real life will actually walk to the voting booth and actually press or write down their real-life hopes and dreams and finally get some reality-light shine again in the White House.
Update: maybe the reason why the MSM's reality-warping ways won't work this time is because of YouTube, C-Span, etc.--people are now able to go online and get the speeches, interviews, debates, town hall meetings, unfiltered, uncut to soundbyte portions, and thus have a firmer grasp of what actually transpired.
