As many of you know (and some of you are tired of hearing about), we have a good chance to take the MS-01 seat in the May 13th special election with Travis Childers.
Now, I know there's been some to-do over Childers' distancing himself from Obama when confronted by right-wing slime, and I've got to admit, I'm pretty disappointed in the way Childers handled himself. We either stand together or fall on our own. Hopefully he'll handle the issue better from here on out.
And I also know there are others who remain suspicious of Blue Dogs all around. But the fact remains that Childers is a life-long democrat, an economic populist against the war whose message is resonating with working folks in North Mississippi.
I've said it before and I'll say it again: winning this seat would be a national coup for the party, but the GOP is hitting hard and outspending Childers 2 to 1. Every bit of help...well, helps. Today, and today only, every little bit you can see to offer ($5, $10, $25 or more) will be matched.
DavidNYC over at the Swing State project has generously offered to match every Act Blue contribution to Childers made today. He's a humble blogger and so obviously there's a limit ($250) that he's willing to match, but the offer is much appreciated anyway.
SSP is trying to reach a goal of $2300 for Childers. It's not a lot, but again, every bit helps. And dollars go further down here. The DCCC is working too, but the right-wing noise machine is going balls out on this one. If enough donations are made today to reach DavidNYC's limit, they'll reach and surpass their goal.
If you can spare a few dollars and about five minutes, all of us down here would be sincerely grateful. Childers can do it, he just needs our help. When a Democrat goes to the House, it'll benefit us all, and having Democratic representation is, in my opinion, essential for the people of North Mississippi.
So, if you can, please do drop some coins in the bucket. And if you can rec' the diary to see if maybe, just maybe, we can put a very small portion of the amazing energy here to work at giving the Democratic Party a major win in Mississippi, well, that'd be appreciated as well.
