River Falls Wisconsin is about 30 minutes east of Saint Paul. Through the work of a number of committed students and community members the UW-River Falls campus has become a center of political activism in the area.
We have been working hard on all areas of political participation: getting student elected to local political offices (Pierce County Board), electing a super majority of progressives to our student senate, distributing condoms on campus, registering voters, holding public information meetings for candidates for offices, encouraging voter turnout, challenging governmental meetings held in Violation of the Wisconsin Open Meeting Law, researching Anti Trust violations made by university food service providers, holding our democratic congressman accountable for his votes to fund the Iraq War Hopping Mad Students about the War ,running a member of the UWRF college Dems against our republican state representative Kitty Rohades, and many other actions.

The River Falls Anti-War Coalition is a student group that was formed by the members of three different organizations: The UWRF College Democrats, The UWRF Socialist Alternative, and River Falls Peace and Justice. We have been working for several months on creating the Rally Tuesday, this will lead into our protests at the RNC in September (We already have permits for demonstrating at parks by the Convention Center for 5 days in Saint Paul).
But back to the event Tuesday...
3:30-6:30 p.m. - Rally in the River Valley
AT THE EVENT: Live local music from SEPIA TONE and THEA ENNEN - Veteran and Activist Speakers, Free Food. We are presenting a unified voice to strongly oppose wars for profit and imperialist gain. Sponsored by: Socialist Alternative, College Democrats, River Falls Peace and Justice
We say:
- Support the troops – bring them home now
- Money for jobs, and education – not war
- Full benefits for returning veterans
- No escalation of violence in the Middle East
Gather at the River Falls Public Library to March to the rally site. Marchers are meeting at 2:45 p.m.
Food will include Pizza from a locally owned (non national chain, ie good stuff) pizza shop and sodas from The Whole Earth Grocery, known locally to some as Hippy Foods
We would like to encourage as many members of the public to participate as possible, a large showing of support helps many people realize that they are not alone in wanting to take a stand to end the war. If you can come to the RF public library Map to join the community marchers or later on in the afternoon for Music and Speakers at the University Center Map -- take Right for last turn on map directions the University Center will be in front of you please join us, and bring friends.
The event is free and open to the public, one of our goals is to demonstrate that those who want to end the war are not alone - you respectful presence will help us create a student movement that can bring real long lasting change to how Americans approach politics for generations to come.
