Hey all, I am surprised I haven't seen this diaried yet, so here goes...
NYT had a great article out the other day, that is not linked through MSNBC and a couple other places, about the enormous impact superdelegate kids have been having on their parents.
NYT article
Follow me after the break.
A couple favorite sections of mine.
As the race for the Democratic presidential nomination continues, youthful volunteers for each candidate have been campaigning with bright-eyed brio, not only door-to-door but also at home.
Mr. Obama eagerly sought out young voters with his Internet operation and a widespread, efficient campus network. Those efforts are paying off: in all Democratic primaries to date (excluding Florida and Michigan), about 6 in 10 voters under age 30 have supported him
I think this quote once again emphasis how idiodic it would be to count Michigan/Florida as is. This if nothing else proves that something was up with those votes, if they are the only two under contention, and they also happen to be the only 2 where he lost the youth vote.
The article goes on to mention Sebelius, McCaskill, Casey, Jim Doyle, and other superdelegates who were swayed by their children. This also, I am sure is working for many of the young people on this site. I got my dad to Obama, and I am working on my grandmother (She is reading Audacity of Hope right now). They were both Dems already, but I pushed them to Obama away from Clinton.
The last quote is telling.
"Maybe these young people know something we don’t."
I would argue that many young people are more invested in looking to the future because that is where the majority of the decisions made now will come back to affect us. Older generations are looking for immediate answers/help because they are in positions to need it now.
One last thing, for all those people who say the young are disinterested, and don't care, and won't vote. Give me a freaking candidate who I believe in and who speaks to me, and I will be there. Count me among those that if Hillary gets the nomination, will have to hold my breath and vote, and will not donate either my time or my money to the campaign. I have done both so far for Obama.
