Elizabeth told bloggers on a conference call shortly after the Edwards campaign suspended, that she’ll "be around."
She’s keeping her word.
Today, Elizabeth was a guest on NPR, where she discussed how McCain’s healthcare plan, "falls short in every conceivable way."
PODCAST: LISTEN to Elizabeth on NPR- April 8, 2008
Elizabeth recently began slamming McCain’s so called "health care plan," (he really doesn’t have one, as Elizabeth noted) blogging at The Wonk Room and appearing on national morning shows. In her recent appearance on "Morning Joe" Elizabeth didn’t hold back, stating, "Neither one of us would be covered by his healthcare policy."
MCcain and Elizabeth would not qualify on McCain’s plan, due to pre-existing conditions. As Elizabeth pointed out, we not only want to keep costs down, but also want to ensure that everyone is covered, neither of which of McCain's "plan" accomplishes despite his justifications. As nyceve stated in a recent diary, "Thankfully, we have intrepid warriors like Elizabeth Edwards, to call out and point out that Mr. McSame is a damn, fucking hypocrite lying bastard."
VIDEO: Elizabeth Slams McCain’s Health Care Plan
Elizabeth hopes to see truly Universal Health Care become a part of the Democratic Platform and plans to continue to advocate for such. To this end, Elizabeth has joined the progressive think tank, The Center for American Progress, as a Senior Fellow. True to her progressive net-roots, Elizabeth will also be blogging as part of this endeavor:
Elizabeth Edwards will be dealing with health care issues at the progressive think tank founded by John Podesta, former chief of staff to President Bill Clinton. In her new role, Edwards, who has gained a considerable following in the liberal blogosphere thanks to her willingness to vocally oppose conservative politicos from Sen. John McCain to commentator Ann Coulter, will also be contributing to CAP's blog.
"As many can attest, I have an opinion on everything," Edwards said tonight about her new role. "But I am particularly concerned about the state of health care in America and I am grateful to CAP for giving me the chance to continue to advocate for universal and quality health care coverage for all."
WaPo: The Fix
As most progressive bloggers know, Elizabeth is a long time blogger, known to be everywhere around the tubes. She has blogged on a number of major progressive sites, including DailyKos. Not surprisingly, she also made the time to liveblog on her homestate’s most noted, progressive blog, BlueNC.
When it comes to the progressive blogosphere, Elizabeth gets it. The Edwards for President campaign certainly reflected this. During one of my first interactions with a staffer for the Edwards campaign, I was told that they had been instructed to "be good to the bloggers." And they were. The campaign lived up to this instruction, always going the extra mile to be inclusive of bloggers. From including bloggers on the campaign plane, to granting bloggers press credentials, including them on press conference calls, holding blogger meet and greets along with a number of other efforts, the campaign set a new precedent in how bloggers were included in Presidential campaigns. Our concerns were always addressed and our voices were included.
Elizabeth understands the blogosphere and possesses the qualities that make for an effective blogger and a strong advocate: Outspoken, opinionated, & courageous.
During the Edwards Presidential campaign, Elizabeth, (the not so secret weapon), took to the campaign trail to advocate for progressive policies. As John’s "most trusted advisor" Elizabeth has been lauded as a "leading voice." She’s fearless. Even in standing up to even the most controversial and obnoxious, in situations where integrity and civility seem far out of reach, Elizabeth is able to bring a sense of dignity and grace:
Progressive bloggers and Democrats in general, are fortunate to have Elizabeth's voice out there, "a leading voice," speaking for all of us on the issues that so important to us.
Be sure to catch the live webcast of Elizabeth, on Wednesday, speaking at Harvard, where she has taken a visiting fellowship at Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government!
