I was surprised to see an envelope with "JOHN EDWARDS" in the return address spot, so I opened it right away. John says that although he's confident that a Democrat will win the presidential election,
what truly frightens me--and should frighten you, too--are the 49 Republicans who want to continue George Bush's agenda even after he's gone. ... And they will keep using the "War on Terror"--a slogan designed only for politics, not a strategy to make America safe--to justify the sacrifice of more American lives for George Bush's failed policy in Iraq.
According to the letter, for every dollar donated to the DSCC between now and April 30, a group of Democratic senators has pledged to raise two more dollars, tripling the contribution.
With your support and the support of hundreds of thousands of other staunch Democrats, the DSCC is focusing the energy and resources of our entire party on ending the stranglehold the far right has had on the Senate--and our nation's progress.
It's late, and I'm getting a little incoherent, but I hope I can convey how important I feel this is. (Aaaargh! Almost forgot to put in the link: Help stamp out Bush's backers and don't forget ActBlue).
Before this year, when I was "struck by the fierce urgency of now," I had made a couple of modest contributions to the party. This year, I've contributed six times, including (still modest) contributions to three candidates and just today, to the DSCC. I feel like we're in a death match, with the other party trying not just to take us down, but to take us out of the game permanently.
I urge all of you out there to make a contribution, however small, and I hope that all of us together can help clean house come November. Am I making sense?
