It's hard to feel too sorry for someone who, while trumpeting unity, acceptance, and hope, had his twenty-year close relationship with a hate-spewing racist pastor blow up in his face, but you have to feel sorry for Barack Obama. It's stunning how all of those high-level supporters who were so eager to appear everywhere just weeks ago have suddenly jumped down their holes and left Barack Obama swinging in the wind.
Where are Ted and Caroline? Where’s John Kerry? Bill Richardson? Bob Casey? Oprah Winfrey? Bruce Springsteen? The list goes on.
It was painful to watch Obama sigh and stumble through his April 29 press conference to denounce Jeremiah Wright. It was even more painful to see not a SINGLE high-level supporter come to his defense later that day, or the next. The silence was deafening.
Even Barack’s wife, Michelle, was eager to let Obama stand (or fall) on his own – refusing to lend words of support for Barack when she was on NBC’s Today show, saying instead "We got to move forward. You know, this conversation doesn't help my kids, you know. It doesn't help kids out there who are looking for us to make decisions and choices about how we're going to better fund education." Yikes.
First Wright, now Obama’s most prominent supporters. With friends like these.....
