The South Carolina Democratic Convention will be held this weekend, May 2nd-3rd in Columbia. We get to send 54 delegates to Denver from SC.
Other business at the convention includes electing DNC committeemen.
One of the current DNC committeemen, Waring Howe Jr, is running for re-election to his post. Mr. Howe, as a current DNC member and superdelegate, has endorsed Barack Obama, but I have heard from a good authority that he has been calling Obama headquarters in Chicago and telling them that he will switch to Hillary Clinton if other candidates for the new term of the DNC committeeman don't drop out.
Now, I don't want to lose an Obama superdelegate, but this guy needs to be stopped. He is trying to blackmail the Obama supporters at the state convention.
Even if all the Obama supporters voted to remove this guy, the new DNC terms don't start until after Denver so he could still vote for Hillary just to spite us.
I can't think of any reasonable way for us to win this. He can do whatever he wants even if the vast majority of the state convention wants the exact opposite.
Anybody got any suggestions?
May 4th UPDATE: Waring Howe was defeated by a vote of 570 to 512 by a Columbia area attorney named Matthew Richardson. I don't think this post had anything to do with his defeat--I heard nobody discussing the situation at the convention.
I stressed in the comment section that this whole situation was a rumor, but it has been brought to my attention that it is important to note in the post.
