We are now less than 72 hours away from the special election for the MS-01 congressional seat. There have been no public polls run, but recent insider polling from both camps have Democrat Travis Childers marginally ahead. The GOTV effort is going to be crucial and is already underway. A lot of this diary is going to be information I have posted on our blog Cotton Mouth.

News
Dick Cheney is coming to help campaign in "South Memphis". See comment below:
Q: Monday you are going to be here -- on Monday -- in the state of Mississippi, and Greg Davis will be there, and you'll be in Senatobia, Hernando, and that area?
Dick Cheney: Yes, I think we are going to be. I'm not sure exactly. It's going to be someplace in the First District. I'm not sure exactly what part of it. South Memphis or --
Q: Don't worry about it.
Not only does he not know that it is Southaven, which happens to be where the GOP candidate Greg Davis is Mayor, but he thinks it is Tennessee. The eastern part of the state is worried about a shift of power to the Memphis burbs. This will not go over well with voters in Tupelo.
Swing State Project had this update:
Dick Cheney's comments on visiting south Memphis have rankled people in the Tupelo area. Childers has been working that story into his recent stump speeches, saying that Memphis doesn't need another congressman -- Mississippi does.

and one more:
I don't know if the money given at this point will get there in time for Tuesday's election, but we will hopefully be defending this in November. The Novemeber election is set with Childers vs Davis, round two. This will be the fourth time less than 90 days voters have had to go the polls for these two candidates. Remember that Tuesday night we have a chance to lower the number of GOP seats in the House to under 200 before the 2008 cycle begins. I believe we are at 235-200 after Cazayoux's win in LA-06.
