I just go home from volunteering at an event in Cape Girardeau, MO. Senator Barack Obama and Senator Claire McCaskill came to a clothing factory for a townhall meeting with employees.
The Thorngate factory makes high end men's suits. Many designer brands(IF they are made in the USA) are made in this Cape Girardeau factory.
I worked full time(as a volunteer) to help get Senator McCaskill elected. I am a grunt....I'm no one special just a worker bee.
I arrived at the factory and helped set up. My friend Sally and I worked the press table. We handed out the credentials after we checked IDs.
Senator Obama and Senator McCaskill entered the room to thunderous applause. Sen McCaskill introduced Sen Obama and said that this was the kickoff for the general election. Obama, as you will recall, won Missouri in February.
Sen Obama spoke for a few minutes and then took questions from some local Democrats, the factory workers and their families. The questions pertained to real everyday issues. Healthcare, education, the outsourcing of jobs, the Iraq War, alternative energy, gas prices and the crumbling infrastructure. Senator Obama spoke passionately and frankly about his plans for the future of the USA.
Senator Obama begins the general election by visiting one of the most Republican areas in the country...Rush Limbaugh's hometown.
And I was there..to see history made.
