This will be brief. The Kevin James/Chris Matthews Interview has inspired me. Americans need to look at this and recognize the use of specific syntax to manipulate and assemble mass segments of the population into angry mobs shouting the latest catch phrases, angered because they were misinformed and instructed to follow without full explanation.
Remember when Americans wanted to know the full story, "The truth and nothing but the truth?" When did we become automatons who are controlled by any soundbyte as if it were a mental trigger?
Examples of this in the modern day are obviously the Kevin James "Appeaser" bits. He doesn't know what an appeaser is.
A few of these recently and please add "Appeaser" to the list are:
Elitist
Bitter-gate
Out of touch
Gas Tax Holiday
Buyer's remorse
I posted once before about the use of language to manipulate us and I want to bring some of that back up here. Kevin James is a perfect example of what happens when we don't learn the background story.
From my previous diary-
Byte ME
I have spent the last few months noticing a trend that I'm sure has been happening for a very long time. The absorption of language bytes by people who claim to be only sharing their personal opinion yet doing so by using someone else's language.
It is believed that children are better at language absorption than adults which is true in the sense of learning a new language but it is very clear that adults are absorbing and regurgitating the many sound-bytes perpetuated by both the candidates and the media to a disturbing level this election. It is almost as if no one is stopping to really consider what is being said or what is really meant.
It is an extremely reactionary response to the deluge of information being thrown upon us as adults trying to decide which candidate best aligns with our concerns and values.
It is quite sad that America has gone from a country that knows its history to this.
"Those who don't know history are destined to repeat it."
