Following on the California Supreme Court's ruling, anti-gay marriage activists are gearing up for a fight over the ballot referendum on a state constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage:
Opponents of same-sex marriage plot their campaign strategy
A similar referendum, though not one tied to a constitutional amendment, passed in California in 2001 with approximately 60% of the vote. Lots has happened since then, and there's some optimism that perhaps this amendment can be defeated in the fall.
What better way to help swing public opinion in California by 10 points than a concerted, smart, $40 million media campaign? What better way to redirect the money and effort that would have gone into a national 527 campaign?
