I'm a widow. I was widowed at the age of 46, which has made me rather strong.
I watched my husband of 24 years die before my eyes after his very long fight with cancer, which has made me rather sensitive to other people's pain and suffering.
I'm also a mother of six, which has made me rather pragmatic. Especially since five of the six are boys. :) (just kidding)
The point of all of that is to pretty much explain how I became so into politics. I joined a website for widows/widowers to be with those who understood the pain I was in after losing my one and only. After a few months, I ventured into one of the site's sub-boards that allowed us widows/widowers to discuss current events. This gave us a sounding board of sorts with things like politics or controversial subjects. Thus began my adventure.
I've alway been interested in politics and all that came with it, but never to the extent I am into it now. It actually became my lifesaver. It gave me something to take my mind off things. Boy, did I learn a lot.
I learned how to search out the truth. I'd click on link after link after link until I was satisfied it was fact. I believe that is what's most important when writing in a blog or in a post. We all have our opinions, and that's fine. We're entitled to them, after all, and there's nothing wrong with sharing those opinions as we can learn so much from them. How other people view things has given me pause many more times than not, and often opens my eyes to things I didn't know about.
I'm rambling, I know. What I'm trying to get at is this. I've ventured into some of the sites that you diarists have linked to. Even though they've been rather bothersome to read, I wanted to know what they had to say. Comments from their readers often made me angry, and it took everything I had to keep my fingers from going at it in answer to their lies or distortions.
I decided to join this site a few weeks ago because I saw restraint, honesty, intelligence, and hard work in the diarist's posts. Facts, above all else, were important. It was a breath of fresh air. I saw none of that on sites like No Quarter, Hillaryis44, or some others. I'm astounded, to say the least. They're no different than the right-wing rags we all tend to know who put their candidate or party ahead of the truth. Not cool.
Now, even though it appears we are a pro-Obama place to be, it's not nearly all it is. Kudos to you for this.
I've heard plenty of bad things said about the DailyKos and yes, maybe I'm prejudiced, but I check the links that are posted by a diarist, and it almost always backs up the opinion with fact. For that, you should be proud.
Rant away, but always strive for the truth while ranting. That's what pisses the other sites off. :)
