It looks like another big show is about to drop in the NY-13 race. The NY Daily News is reporting that Democratic candidate Domenic Recchia will drop out.
On the Democratic side, a source confirms the rumor that Councilman Domenic Recchia is NOT expected to follow through with his nascent bid for Fossella's seat, despite the fact that he is sitting on some $325,000.
That leaves Brooklyn attorney Stephen Harrison, who ran an unsuccessful challenge to Fossella in 2006, as the lone announced candidate. .
But Democratic leaders want someone from Staten Island to run for the seat, as the bulk of the district is located in the borough. Potential contenders include: Assemlyman Mike Cusick, Councilman Mike McMahon, Sen. Diane Savino (poses a problem for Senate Minority Leader Macolm Smith) and Assemblyman Peter Abbate.
I do not know if he does not feel he can beat someone else, or he is making room for someone else about to enter the race. My bet is that the DCCC landed a recruit. Hopefully we'll know by morning.
