This is my first diary. I'm a little nervous; please let me know if I've mucked something up.
Yesterday, Kyman posted a great diary about an Obama staffer's arrival in Glasgow, a small town in Kentucky. In a seemingly endless cycle of blah news for Obama, this diary was a breath of fresh air. If you haven't read it, I recommend it.
Within the first several comments, folks were talking about doing a grassroots pizza run for Obama staffers and volunteers. Well, today I actually did it, and you can too.
Last night I hopped on Obama's website and got the contact info for the Volunteer Headquarters in Gary, Indiana:
Gary -- Volunteer HQ
4405 W 5th Avenue
Gary, IN 46406
Phone: (219) 944-2008
I called the number, and I asked the Obama staffer who answered the phone if they could use some pizzas. He said "Yes!" and told me that they'd gotten pizza from a California supporter on Wednesday & they are getting pizza from a California supporter again on Sunday.
Then I googled around a bit to find the pizza joint I wanted to patronize:
Miller Pizza Station
622 S. Lake St.
Gary, IN 46403
Phone: (219) 938-7071
(I hope this is good pizza. I have no idea. I've never been to Gary, much less sampled the local cuisine.)
I called Miller Pizza and talked to the owner, Scott, who was just as nice as he could be. He jokingly noted that I'm deep in Clinton Country (I live in Little Rock) ordering pizzas for Obama. True enough.
So later on today, the Gary volunteer office is getting six pizzas inspired by dKos.
I've been lurking here since 2005, but I didn't get excited enough to join and post until this primary season began. In that time, I've seen this community do some amazing things. I have a feeling that we could organize a pretty damn effective pizza bomb. Just throwing that out there.
When I think about the vitally important work that the Obama staffers and volunteers are doing, I'm filled with gratitude. I'm a regular contributor to the campaign, but it feels really good to send some food their way as a more concrete "thank-you." So thanks to the commenters in Kyman's diary who inspired me, and thanks to everyone working to secure the nomination for Barack Obama.
This was super easy. You can do it too:
Indiana offices
North Carolina offices
Yes we can!
