There have been some whispers out there that I'd like to check out, but I don't know where to begin looking for evidence. Specifically, I was wondering how to prove the following thesis:
Big financial players who took a bath in the real estate collapse are trying to recoup their loses by taking advantage of naturally rising oil and food prices and pushing them into a speculative bubble.
I'm not an economist, I'm a historian. But I know it's possible to create a bubble like this. See Enron and California. I also know that many of the very people who would naturally be suspicious of Wall Street Smart Guys creating a bubble, also feel that oil prices are almost artificially low and that its rising price might force us to pursue a sane energy policy for once. So maybe we're not looking?
Where would I look and what would I look for?
