Though Geraldine Ferraro is still not okay with Obama, she is no longer stating explicitly that she won't vote for him.
In this article that appears on The Huffington Post, Ferraro says she never said she wouldn't vote for Obama. She says she is "taking a cue" from Michelle Obama, who when asked if she would vote for Hillary Clinton if she became the nominee, said she'd "think about" voting for Clinton.
This, of course, is little better than saying she won't vote for Obama. At least, however, it shows that she realizes what a gaffe it is to say, on television, that she wouldn't support Obama, the Democratic nominee, in the general election.
What strikes me as so interesting about Ferraro's comments is how wounded she clearly feels. It's as if she is angry that Obama had the audacity to run for President and actually succeed. It's almost as if Obama doesn't have the right, in Ferraro's mind, to run for President!
Also, her attempt to pin sexism on Obama in the form of his reference to Jay-Z's song, which the HuffPo article points out is not sexist at all, indicates that for Ferraro any hip hop reference equals sexism.
As pointed out by many folks in the comments, Michelle Obama never said she'd "think about" voting for Clinton. She said she'd think about working for her actively as a campaigner.
And, also let me correct language about how "Ferraro feels" since someone in the posts called me "tricky" for suggesting that Ferraro feels wounded (though given her comments, why is it disparaing to suggest she feels wounded). ANYWAY--let me just revise that sentence to be: "What strikes me as interesting is wounded Ferraro SEEMS to feel."
