Hi everyone,
Well, there are some bigots in America. It has been like that all my life. I do not know what the big deal is. So they won't vote for Obama, obviously there are plenty of people who will.
No candidate is going to get everyone's vote for whatever reason. Some people want a woman President, some people want an African-American President, some people want an elder man President others want change...
Some people do not want a woman President, or an African-American President or an elder man as President and some people want no change.
And there you have it. People have a choice, no matter what drives them, they make that choice when they vote.
It is no surprise that bigots do not want to vote for Obama. But they are not representative of America. They should not be controlling the narrative. It seems to me that it plays right into Clinton's hands that we are so focused on the negative and not all the positive things that Americans have done in this election. It makes people uneasy that these bigots won't vote for our candidate. Maybe it raises doubts in some. Not me. I already knew how they felt, it is no surprise.
They think that African-Americans will 'pay them back' for all the horrible things that they might have done to them? That is very telling. These people have very little power themselves, are poor and they are afraid that they might have to ride in the back of the bus?
They do not realize that they are already riding in the back of the bus.
So instead of scorn for them and calling them names, maybe what we should be doing is reaching out to them for the next generation's sake, to lift them up.
Bigots didn't become that way overnight. This has been going on for generations. And it may take that long to alleviate alot of it, if at all.
The country is huge and made up of many types of folks and I don't expect that we'll ever all love one another. But I hope for more tolerance for people who are different than you or me.
Some of my best friends' parents were bigots and we managed just fine.
Obama needs to reach out to them, not to get them to love him, but to get them from the back of the bus to enjoy the richness of our country's diversity and talent, which can uplift them. And I bet underneath some of the bitterness, they have things to offer as well. Heck, bring us all from the back of the bus.
