I remember a time not so long ago when this image was an unambiguous sign for any person with liberal or progressive sensibilities that something is seriously wrong with the world:
But now many Democrats have become de facto Ditto-heads, gladly nodding their approval whenever Rush Limbaugh or some other right wing lunatic makes some derogatory remark about Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton (whichever one they don't like).
Take a little stroll with me below the fold. I'd like to show you something.
Ahhh! What the Hell! You already Posted that picture! That's repulsive! It turns my stomach!
Yep, that's right. And I'll do it again.
Maybe you should get used to this...
Why am I doing this? What the Hell is my problem!!
I am not doing this. You are. Yes, you. Every Democrat who screams from the rooftops, "I HATE HILLARY // OBAMA!!! I'M VOTING MCCAIN!!!!!!!" This is what you are doing. And I want you to get used to this picture.
Because this is what happens if McCain gets elected in November
Corporate controlled health care with skyrocketing premiums...
Roe v. Wade Overturned... (Isn't this fun?)
Bush's tax cuts for the wealthy extended...
Indefinite military presence in Iraq... (Weeeeee!!!!)
Privatized Social Security (i.e., dismantling Social Security)...
Bomb, Bomb, Bomb...Bomb, Bomb Iran...
But hey! You stand on principle. You kept the Democratic Party pure. You told us all that you will not stand for whatever insult or slight your candidate endured at the hands of that bitch/bastard and her/his surrogates. That's so great of you. What an admirable quality. We all thank you! Here's someone else who thanks you...
OK, enough. Let's take a break from that for a moment. Seriously, no one should be forced to endure 14 consecutive images of that smug, soulless bastard. But this is nothing, nothing, compared to the four years of endless joy you will bring this bloated, hypocritical idiot if Democrats are responsible for bringing this country another four years of George W. Bush's policies.
Tell me the thought doesn't make you wretch. Rush Limbaugh, broadcasting all across the AM airwaves, squealing with joy, laughing at how the Democrats voted against their own interests because they couldn't put aside the petty squabbles of the primaries and come together in a year when the country was positioned for a leftward realignment.
Look at these three pictures.
For many of us, two of these three smiling faces turn our stomach. But there was a time, not so long ago, when only one of these images had this effect. Remember that? The good ol' days? Remember when we were all Democrats? Remember when the most important things in the world were health care, Iraq, civil liberties, Social Security, Roe v. Wade, the composition of the Supreme Court. Now what? Now it's Tulza-gate, Bitter-gate, flag pins, "hard working white people", "typical white people", kool-aid, bowling scores, Hillary crying, whether Obama gave Hillary the finger, the sexism of Obama, the racism of Hillary...
Hey! Look at this!
Look, I know that you haven't the foggiest clue who I am. But I'd like to ask a small favor of everyone. Please try something. Not now, not even a week from now. Hell, maybe not even a few weeks from now. But eventually the day will come when this primary is over, and we will have an undisputed nominee. When that day arrives, let a few weeks pass. Let your emotions cool off a bit. And then...
For Hillary supporters, consider these two smiling faces:
For Obama supporters, consider these two smiling faces:
Consider what makes these faces smile, and try not to be cynical and nasty about it. Think about the issues, think about policy, think about things that actually matter to people.
Then ask yourself, which of these two faces do I want to see smiling for the next four years.
