So the other day I was really bored and like any sane body who is bored would do, I fiddled around with the Presidential electoral map on USA Today I was checking out the different scenarios on how easily it could be for Obama to win. Then all of a sudden I thought, "Is Clinton more electable?" What I came up with was a bit shocking, more below the jump.
For all those who have been to Mydd, they have probably seen the maps showing who is more electable than Mcsame. I always assumed that it was lies but that was it, just assumed. Well I finally decided to put the polls to the map and figure out once and for all in my mind who is more electable. So I headed over to RCP and to wikipedia and applied their averages of states to my map. I did one for Clinton and one for Obama. What I found is that Clinton ended up with 272 electoral votes with the following states:
(These states are selected by the average of recent polls and can obviously change)
Arkansas 6
California 55
Connecticut 7
D.C. 3
Delaware 3
Florida 27
Hawaii 4
Illinois 21
Maine 4
Massachusetts 12
Maryland 10
Minnesota 10
New Jersey 15
New York 31
Ohio 20
Pennsylvania 21
Rhode Island 4
Vermont 3
Washington 11
West Virgina 5
Total = 272
I did the same thing for Obama and found he got 283 electoral votes from the following states:
California 55
Connecticut 7
Colorado (4.5% lead) 9
D.C. 3
Delaware 3
Hawaii 4
Illinois 21
Indiana (1.3% lead) 11
Iowa (6.4% lead) 7
Maine 4
Massachusetts 12
Maryland 10
Minnesota 10
New Jersey 15
New Mexico (2.6% lead) 5
New York 31
Ohio (1.3% lead) 20
Oregon 7
Pennsylvania (5.8% lead) 21
Rhode Island 4
Vermont 3
Washington 11
Wisconsin (2% lead) 10
Total = 283
Two other things that doe not get mentioned is that the two major states that Obama has not campaigned yet, therefore they do not know him as well as most states, are Michigan and Florida and I believe that once their delegate issue is decided tomorrow the Democratic numbers will jump there because Obama is within 5% of McSame in both states and also very close contests in Virgina (which could easily be locked up with a VP from there)North and South Carolina, New Hampshire and Nevada we could easily see a huge Democratic victory this election. Also Obama seems to be polling a lot better in stronger republican states (and in important Dem states) that he may not win but will play in seat races and in the final vote total as well. Thanks to my boredom, I squashed all question in me that Clinton is more electable than Obama.
