This will be a short diary but it is something that has been nagging at me for some time. Going into the convention, Clinton will most likely be only a few hundered delegates behind Barack Obama. If she wants, she could force her way onto the ticket as Baracks VP. If you recall
The vice presidential candidates of the major national political parties are formally selected by each party's quadrennial nominating convention, following the selection of their presidential candidates. The official process is identical to the one by which the presidential candidates are chosen, with delegates placing the names of candidates into nomination, followed by a ballot in which candidates must receive a majority to secure the party's nomination.
So if the Clinton campaign does want on the ticket and Obama does not want her on the ticket, will she force herself onto the ticket. I have seen that there is support for her to be the VP not only from Clinton supporters but also from a majority of Democrats. Some polls have the support for the "dream ticket" at 60%. Well if she can make the issue she probably could convince numerous delegates to switch their support to her for VP. It is very possible that all this talk about going to the convention might be go to the convention to force Obama to accept her as the VP of the party and that could just as damaging as taking it to the floor for her to be the nominee. I hope I am wrong, but I have a feeling I am not.
Just to be clear I do not think that if she tried it that she would make it but it would still be damaging because it would give her supporters a reason to be devisive.
Also it is not about her actually getting on the ticket, its about trying to force it. If she even gets half of her own delegate support her VP then it would appear as the party is divided and Clinton supporters would continue to fight.
