I am saddened by the news that's unravelling right now, that Sen. Obama has decided to resign his Church that has become his sanctuary and home for more than two decades. The decision is, as the senator himself said, a "personal" and "sad" one. At the constitutioal level, he has his right to do so.
His action, the Senator maintains, is not a denouncement of the former Church and, in fact, the official response from the Church itself is quite reasonable, that it's also saddened by the decision and prayed for Sen. Obama and his family
And yet, I think it would be a gross mistake to see that this is only a matter of personal and rational choice of an individual whois no longer comfortable and sees it fit to remain to stay in the Church. For one thing, Sen. Obama is not only an individual, he is a Presidential candidate and a historic one at that. His campaign has been full of all kind of ups and downs n the past one and a half year, flooded by demonization and yes intimidation from his opponents, including from within his own party. He has, miraculously, so far gone unschated and the voters have said clearly that he's their candidate. The superdelegates have been flooding their supports even if Hillary has deployed all kind of tactics imaginable, even with some unscrupulous and cynical ways.
Until this major event. His resignation from the Church is the thing that I am afraid would be spun out of control by Hillary and the Reps at the sam time. If Sen. Obama thinks that his action is a matter of personal choice, I am sure he is in trouble. Leaving a Church would be seen by many grass-roots
